Import, export and clone courses

Needs review

Needs review: Verify by a round trip which topic types survive import: GIFT quizzes export their questions but no import strategy re-creates them; LiaScript and LTI topics export only IDs that must exist on the target.

All three actions are on Courses → List and need their own permissions, so you may not see all of them.

  1. Find the course in Courses → List.
  2. Click the Export button in its row. With the “export authored” permission you can export only courses you are an author of.
  3. ulams builds a ZIP file and the browser downloads it when it is ready (“File exported successfully”).

The ZIP contains a content.json with the course, its lessons and topics, and the files they use. Large courses with many videos take a while to build and download.

  1. In Courses → List, click Import file.
  2. Choose a course ZIP exported from ulams.
  3. When “Course imported successfully” appears, the course is in the list as a new course with a new ID.

The import is checked like every other package upload: a real zip of at most 1 GB by default, at most 10 000 files, no paths that escape the archive, no zip bombs, and an antivirus scan when the operator has enabled one. File paths inside content.json are only resolved inside the archive.

Click Clone in a course’s row to create a copy on the same installation. Cloning runs in the background; refresh the list if the copy does not appear at once.
